United Olfactories

Let’s make perfume together.

A members’ perfume union. We commission an original scent from a named perfumer, at what it costs to make. Joining is free. When one is made, we begin the next.

What this is

Five hundred of us hire one perfumer, and split the bill.

You put your name down today for free. Nothing is due until enough of us have gathered to fund the batch.

When five hundred of us are here, we commission a named perfumer to make one original scent, with a free hand.

The fee, the materials, the glass, the cap, the box, the postage, all of it divided by five hundred. You pay what your bottle cost to make, and nothing sits on top.

If we never reach five hundred, nothing is made and nobody is charged.

01.

Alone

A respected perfumer’s fee runs into the thousands, and a batch starts at ten kilos of concentrate, far more than one person could ever use. Ordered by one person, it simply cannot happen.

02.

Together, five hundred of us

The same fee, divided by five hundred, is pocket change. The same batch, divided by five hundred, is a bottle each, with a few left over. What was out of reach becomes the price of a bottle.

The maker, in the light

Every scent has an author, and the author is the point.

“Their name goes on the bottle, out front, and it stays there. The maker is the point, not the label.”

The price is the whole price

Every bottle is made at cost, and the cost is itemised in full before you pay.

“The perfumer, the materials, the glass, the box, the postage. You pay the sum of those and not one coin more.”

Not customers. Members.

Funded by the people who want it, and they get a say in who we make next.

“No one is sold to. No one is a mark.”

Where five hundred comes from

Five hundred is the smallest this comes in.

The smallest run a lab will take is ten kilos of concentrate, and that floor is set by them, not by us. It is the one number in this whole thing nobody here gets to choose.

Everything after it is division. Ten kilos, diluted to the strength the perfumer decides, comes out as a fixed number of bottles. Five hundred is the smallest membership that covers that batch.

A perfume takes months. The trials, the corrections, the maceration. It leaves the bench when the maker says it is right, and not a day sooner.

Put your name to it before it exists.
